Prince says artists need to reclaim their work from the internet. Is he right, or just not understanding how this new generation works? It's likely that a lot of artist profit from their stuff being on youtube by publicity, but on the other hand doesn't he have the right to have his music taken off youtube without having to do it manually every day. Youtube puts the responsibility of policing music to the artists instead of themselves. In a way I don't see that as totally fair while on the other hand I hate the fact fans can't use music for their videos.

What do you guys think?

tim, i'm with you. i agree with both sides of the argument. but i find it hard to shed a tear for millionaire rock stars. i know you don't like "Southpark" tim but they had an episode where they tackled this issue and it was pretty funny. i wish i knew how to get clips from it and post it.

They need to come up with a standard rule within the music industry that everyone agrees with. Just telling artists if you don't like it, you have to take out the videos yourself is not really fair. That would be a full time job, and shouldn't be their responsibility. They've just got to agree to something that's fair to everyone. I'm not sure what the solution is though, but property rights need to be protected while not stifling the creativity of the average joe. Somebody is probably going to have to cough up some more money I guess.
