Say what gives? Does Obama want to get re-elected more than he wants to please his party?

Obama supports $300M tax cut plan

President-elect Barack Obama, commencing face to face consultations with congressional leaders Monday, is embracing an unexpectedly large tax cut of up to $300 billion. Obama said the country faces an "extraordinary economic challenge."

Besides $500 tax cuts for most workers and $1,000 for couples, the Obama proposal includes more than $100 billion for businesses, an Obama transition official said. The total value of the tax cuts would be significantly higher than had been signaled earlier.

Question where do the Bush tax cuts fall into this? Will those Bush tax cuts just be extended? Or will they fade away for Obama's tax cuts essentially putting us at square one?

WASHINGTON – President-elect Barack Obama's proposed tax cuts are running into opposition from senators in his own party who say they won't do much to stimulate the economy or create jobs.

Senators from both parties agreed that Congress should do something to stimulate the economy. But senators emerging from a private meeting of the Senate Finance Committee on Thursday said that tax portion of Obama's stimulus plan is unworkable.

They were especially critical of a proposed $3,000 tax credit for companies that hire or retrain workers. Democratic Sen. Kent Conrad of North Dakota described it as "misdirected."

I could have told you. His own party going against the man because it's tax cuts. Dems hate tax cuts. And republicans need to work with him on this and squeeze every last real tax cut they can out of Obama. If partisan politics keeps a republican from going along with an honest to goodness tax cut on a tax paying citizen or company then shame on them.

Those senators are correct when they say his 'cuts' won't do much to stimulate the economy or create jobs.

Those senators are wrong when they say Congress should do something to stimulate the economy-that's not what they were elected to do and not part of their job description. They need to stop meddling with the market, which was a major part of the problem in the first place.

Also, what Obama has proposed probably shouldn't be called tax 'cuts' in the first place. His proposed handouts aren't actually a cut in taxes at all and the only actual thing he'd be handing out is inflation. Inflation itself is a tax which means he's actually taxing us all more in the long run with this. 'Misdirected' is a severe understatement.

I agree people have borrowed too much, and lenders loaned out money to people that shouldn't have gotten it.

Not studying Obama's tax cuts in detail all I'll say is letting companies and tax payers keep the money they earn is good.  Handing out tax rebate checks to people that didn't pay it in the first place is very bad for tax payers.

Bigger government is definitely not the answer.

is a bad idea.

which means you should want the unconstitutional income tax banned as much as I do.

Bad for everyone. I completely agree.
