Marvel Comics has released the Barack Obama variant cover image for Amazing Spider-Man #583.

The issue, in stores on Jan. 14, includes a back-up story featuring the President-Elect. The variant cover is by Phil Jimenez.

The story, written by Zeb Wells and art by Todd Nauck and Frank D'Armata takes place in Washington, D.C. on Inauguration Day and finds one of Spider-Man¹s oldest foes attempting to thwart the swearing in ceremony of the 44th President.

"When we heard that President-Elect Obama is a collector of Spider-Man comics, we knew that these two historic figures had to meet in our comics' Marvel Universe," said Joe Quesda, Marvel's editor-in-chief. "Historic moments such as this one can be reflected in our comics because the Marvel Universe is set in the real world. A Spider-Man fan moving into the Oval Office is an event that must be commemorated in the pages of Amazing Spider-Man."

I don't know who they think their kidding this is obviously because they are Obama supporters and are celebrating. I'm not opposed of course to using real life Presidents, but this is kind of more like free publicity for his next election.

You know they would have never put a republican on the cover. I don't care if he starred in a Spider-man movie and tattooed Spidey on his forehead.

By the time 2011 rolls around, nobody is gonna give two squirts about this cover or comic except for trying to cash in on it maybe.

But the backdrops peel and the sets give way and the cast get eaten by the play, there's a murderer at the matinee, there are dead men in the aisles

And the patrons and the actors too are uncertain if the show is through and with sidelong looks await their cue, but the frozen mask just smiles

They better not make Spider-Man an Obama supporter.

I hope not. I think it's best to try and make superheroes not politically biased. Just act like they are too busy saving the world to think that much about it.

Because either way you go with it potentially half your readers will be offended.

I mean it's ok to say Green Arrow for example is a big hippy liberal as long as he doesn't pick real life candidates he supports in the comics.

Green Arrow is usually portrayed as a liberal. At least that's how he describes himself on the Justice league cartoon series.

And if I'm not mistaken in the old Green Arrow/Green Lantern road comic series of the 70's, GA represented the liberal and GL represented the conservative side of things.

Well I always liked Hawkeye better anyway.
