MGM and the Farrelly brothers are closing in on their cast for "The Three Stooges."
Studio has set Sean Penn to play Larry, and negotiations are underway with Jim Carrey to play Curly, with the actor already making plans to gain 40 pounds to approximate the physical dimensions of Jerome "Curly" Howard.

Oh please no. Not Sean Penn as one of my favorite comedic groups of all time. Why? What have I done? Larry is turning over in his grave right now. Sean Penn is the kind of elitist guy the Stooges liked to make fun of. How can a politically correct Stooge play an slap happy funny stooge?

Jim Carrey I can get behind. But Sean Penn please.

The Real Three Stooges

Mel Gibson now there's a man that appreciates the Stooges. Remember those scenes in Lethal Weapon?

You couldn't just be happy they're dusting off the franchise?

But the backdrops peel and the sets give way and the cast get eaten by the play, there's a murderer at the matinee, there are dead men in the aisles

And the patrons and the actors too are uncertain if the show is through and with sidelong looks await their cue, but the frozen mask just smiles

I don't ask for much. I would have been happy with just about anybody but somebody like Penn. I mean come on. The Stooges represent manliness, classic comedy, the ultimate anti-stuck-ups. Penn is like the ultimate stuck up elitist.

I can't even imagine him throwing a pie for crying out loud much less taking a smack to the noggin.

I'm trying to imagine Chuck Norris doing comedy-you think he'd take a pie in the face while wearing a bowl cut?

Hmm no, Chuck Norris would probably be too deadly to the other Stooges. I like Chuck, but don't think he's necessarily great at comedy.

Considering that, at least Sean penn was Jeff Spicolli once upon a time-we now have proof you could do worse than Sean Penn.

Well I liked way back then when he played somebody I could relate to. I thought he was cool. Then there was all those liberal movies, and stupid movies like the one with Madonna.

And don't forget how he beat the crap out of Madonna and locked her in a closet when he was married to her. Real men don't hit girls. Even if it is Madonna.

Coincidence time, Bill O'Reilly  has stated his own reasons he says in a recent interview for not watching Sean Penn movies.

THE HOLLYWOOD REPORTER: WHO ARE THESE DRIVE-BY PEOPLE YOUSPEAK OF?

O'Reilly: I take it case by case. We took on George Clooney over the 9/11 charities, and we were absolutely right, but Clooney does a good job with Darfur. We took on Bruce Springsteen for things he has done at concerts because we want to know what his frame of reference is. These are powerful people, and we're not going to give them a free ride. If there was somebody screaming right-wing stuff, we'd do the same thing. But there is no one like that because if they do that in Hollywood, they're not going to work, which is an interesting story in and of itself.

THE HOLLYWOOD REPORTER: ARE THERE ACTORS WHOSE POLITICAL OPINIONS DISTURB YOU SO MUCH YOU WON'T SEE THEIR MOVIES?

O'Reilly: Just Sean Penn

THE HOLLYWOOD REPORTER: SOMEONE WILL READ THAT AND ACCUSE YOU OF ENCOURAGING A NEW BLACKLIST ERA.

O'Reilly: Not at all. He's a great actor, and if you hire him, you'll get a good performance. I'm just not going to give a guy who gives aid and comfort to people like (Iran president Mahmoud) Ahmadinejad, Hugo Chavez and Saddam Hussein, when he was alive, my 10 bucks. That's my right as an American.
