Got this in an email.

What a great, simple, way to explain socialism. ""
Will America wise up before we all fail ???????""""

""

""An economics professor at a local college made a statement that he had never failed a single student before but had once failed an entire class.""""

That class had insisted that socialism worked and that no one would be poor and no one would be rich, a great equalizer.""""

The professor then said, "OK, we will have an experiment in this class on socialism. All grades would be averaged and everyone would receive the same grade so no one would fail and no one would receive an A. The Class agreed! """"

After the first test, the grades were averaged and everyone got a B. """"

The students who studied hard were upset and the students who studied little were happy. """"

As the second test rolled around, the students who studied little had studied even less and the ones who studied hard decided they wanted a free ride too so they studied little. """"

The second test average was a D! No one was happy. """"

When the 3rd test rolled around, the average was an F.""""

The scores never increased as bickering, blame and name-calling all resulted in hard feelings and no one would study for the benefit of anyone else. """"

All failed, to their great surprise, and the professor told them that socialism would also ultimately fail because when the reward is great, the effort to succeed is great, but when government takes all the reward and shares it with those not earning it, no one will try or want to succeed.""""

It just doesn't get any simpler than this."""" ""

Imagine what would happen if professors across the country did the same thing!!  Talk about an opportunity for an education!!

Most professors are liberals that actually want us to have socialism  though.

The above humorous story doesn't actually describe socialism, mearly redistribution of "wealth" (in this case wealth equalling grades) and while redistribution is as much an aspect of socialism as it is an aspect of christianity, it is not the whole of the philosophy.

For a truly socialist econ class, the professor would assign the A students to tutor the F students, after each test the A students would be brought before the class and all would sing "together we learn, together we are strong" in honor of the professor and his elites.

When a student repeatedly Fails, they will be given more assignments to make up for their failings and bringing down the classes average, and eventually sent into exile (dropped form the class) marked as counter revolutionaries.

Socialism at it's core is based on a concept of community and shared effort.  Just redistributing the wealth dosen't cut it.

If it did socialism would be far more popular, usually it's the gulags for the societal dead weight that kills the concept in practice.

In a capitalist society you are free to be a failure if that is your desire, and live off what meger charity the state or community whishes to give you.  In a socialist society you are seekign to destroy the society from within for your lack of effort and must be dealt with appropriatly.

I'm wondering what our society would look like if you actually stripped away every single element of socialism from it.I don't think it would be quite the paradise some people think it would.

I also don't believe socialism itself is really at the heart of any of our problems. It's a tool used in some negative ways in other outlets and pursuits, but the social elements themselves are not suspect in my eyes. We actually have a decent enough blend here fortunately, and things would improve markedly if we were just to trim away those other outlets and purposes.

But the backdrops peel and the sets give way and the cast get eaten by the play, there's a murderer at the matinee, there are dead men in the aisles

And the patrons and the actors too are uncertain if the show is through and with sidelong looks await their cue, but the frozen mask just smiles

Without socialism, we'd have been conqoured by the blood thirsty Candaian mennace years ago, since the shared sacrafice of our military is certainly a socialistic construct.

No roads, no infrastructure, only each to his own ability with whatever their labor and wisdom can trade.

It's not the best idea, but I think some would call it paradise, which is always the problem you never know what any man's utopia is.

Socialism has at it's core a corruptive nature as the profit motive doesn't disappear just because you remove it's existence in coinage.

Greed motivate each individual even in socialism, however in such a system the greed takes the form of social networks, and political power.

In a capitalistic society, capital can be used to gain political power and influence, in a socialistic society, political power and influence is the capital that one is trading in.

In both cases, corruption is easily tracked as it grows.  And really there is no magic bullet to fix the problem. So long as the state exists there will be an attempt to manipulate it for personal gain.

All you can hope to do is to mitigate the corruption through legal means and public shaming.  Not the most effective tools but it's really all you got.
