the CNN video above discusses the health problems suffered by the clean-up workers, and the fact that BP is strongly discouraging any type of protective gear, such as respirators and even rubber gloves! In the video, Kerry Kennedy mentions that the average age at the time of death of workers who cleaned up after the 1989 Exxon Valdez spill was 51!

Scary. I'm certain the intense heat of the Gulf region can't be helping that, either.
On a related note, I've read that New York City has led the nation in infant mortality and high-risk pregnancy in the last few years. No one's confirmed this for me yet, but could it be a long-term effect from the fallout of 9/11?

New York ranks 40th in infant mortality. Mississippi is first. (at least according to the census bureau)
