Political Discussion / Politics / General Political Discussion / Glenn Beck Rally

One thing big in the news lately was the big Washington rally with Glenn Beck. Rev sharpton (guessing on spelling) was quick to march against Beck and his gang claimed Beck and his group were the ones in the 60s that wanted to keep his gang from marching.

I just thought that was a load of bull. One most of those folks weren't even born yet or were still in school. Second one of the most conservative figures of that day marched with Martin Luther King back in the 60s. He was the head of the NRA for a lot of years. Old Moses, Charlton Heston himself.

Also surprising, I find out that Beck is a Mormon. I always thought he was more likely a Baptist.

And the patrons and the actors too are uncertain if the show is through and with sidelong looks await their cue, but the frozen mask just smiles

Seems like the anti-Beck people are wasting time protesting Beck. If they have a particular point they should make it. At least Beck's group is focused on a positive message. Other than being anti-Obama, I don't think they came with the intent of being anti any particular person. Since Beck isn't running for any office it seems silly to protest him personally. They might as well protest Oprah. Which I would consider doing if I weren't so lazy to actually do it, and I wouldn't feel like an idiot carrying a sign with a picture of Oprah on it.

Would you say there were a lot of libertarians there as well? Are libertarians and independents about the same thing?

I think the Tea Party has been hijacked and pitted against itself. It stopped being about Libertarian ideals a long time ago. Not that it wasn't a vague pile of hot mess to begin with.

Well you got to consider that once something gets huge, it's going to involve a lot of different people of different views and walks of life. I guess the main thing is that folks from the tea party can at least agree on smaller government, less taxes, and less government waste.
