Who's the better criminal? Who eliminated more crime?
Who's more honest? __________________But the backdrops peel and the sets give way and the cast get eaten by the play, there's a murderer at the matinee, there are dead men in the aisles
And the patrons and the actors too are uncertain if the show is through and with sidelong looks await their cue, but the frozen mask just smiles

Batman and Joker-it's in the topic.
You can toss em all in if you like. __________________But the backdrops peel and the sets give way and the cast get eaten by the play, there's a murderer at the matinee, there are dead men in the aisles

Oh so you are going with Batman as a criminal. Hmm.
Legally, Bats is a criminal, but in his mind according to DK he's just a protector of Gotham. Which comes to mind the question what is more important the spirit of the law or the letter of the law?
To me the spirit of the law is vastly more important than the letter. After reading superhero stories since I was a kid I can't imagine thinking anything else. All my heroes would have to be arrested in their own books.
Joker is the real criminal because he seeks to hurt others. Batman seeks to help others. Which is the real intent of the law...to protect the citizens. So while Bats runs through the letters of the law with no issues, he supports the foundations of what the laws were originally built on to begin with. __________________Lucas McCain the Rifleman: A man doesn't run from a fight, Mark...but that doesn't mean you should go running *to* one, either.

Not always. If Batman stopped a robbery by stealing the money for himself first would be wrong. Obviously, that isn't the case. __________________Lucas McCain the Rifleman: A man doesn't run from a fight, Mark...but that doesn't mean you should go running *to* one, either.

Quote: Joker is the real criminal because he seeks to hurt others
I'm not convinced this is his real motivation so much as a product of it.
Either someone is a criminal or they are not, by spirit. It's the letter of the law that let's criminals walk. Spirit and letter of the law are debatable as to their parameters.
Joker's a criminal, in spirit of the law, for taking lives, theft and random acts of terrorism. Letter of the law sticks with him too.
Batman's a criminal as a vigilante, breaking and entering, invasion of privacy, misallocation of funds in a public company, deceiving and defrauding his shareholders and so on. He uses white color crime to fund his black cowl activities. We want him to catch the bad guys so we justify his little wrong doings in order to seek a greater justice. This is about the same as a cop using drug money to put his kids through college so they don't become criminals. With Bats we need the ends to justify the means. We overlook the white collar stuff, because most of us don't trust the white collar people to begin with-the rich are everyone else's enemy just for having the money or the power. We have that tendency to think they're all criminals anyway, so it becomes ok if that is a means to an end-it was going to happen anyway, why not for a good cause?
I could also drag down Alfred, Lucius and Jim for their associations and enabling as well. __________________But the backdrops peel and the sets give way and the cast get eaten by the play, there's a murderer at the matinee, there are dead men in the aisles

You know a lot of what we would accept in real life or not depends on our situations. Say America was still in a great depression kind of environment like the 1930's. I mean like barely able to get food and such. No air conditioners ... the way it used to be.
We'd be more worried about making ends meet to much to be worried bout all the social stuff we all fight about today. You know the stuff I'm talking about with even mentioning them. All the kind of things a society would never have time to worry about till these days where a spoiled world has all the time in the world to pursue any number of once taboo lifestyles.
When things are rough basically the world goes back to the basics. We've lost our compass complicating life because we have so much time on our hands we as a society didn't have before. That could be why when Batman first came out and Superman nothing was thought of to see them let a crook die here and there. __________________Lucas McCain the Rifleman: A man doesn't run from a fight, Mark...but that doesn't mean you should go running *to* one, either.

Most people would disagree about having more time now than in simpler times.

Get yourself some kids and an office job for 60+ hours a week and get back to me on that. __________________But the backdrops peel and the sets give way and the cast get eaten by the play, there's a murderer at the matinee, there are dead men in the aisles

Yes in a way there are those that don't have very much time, and yet others have nothing but time. None of us as compared to earlier generations are really worried about where the next meal is coming from, or having to suffer through a hot summer or cold winter without some kind of heat or air.
I live in the 3rd highest state for obesity right now, and what do they contribute to it? Poverty. Go figure, but there was once a time when poverty meant people that looked skinnier than the rest of the world. __________________Lucas McCain the Rifleman: A man doesn't run from a fight, Mark...but that doesn't mean you should go running *to* one, either.

Is this the same they that controls gas prices?
I can see claiming poverty as a cause because you eat more junk and processed food in a poor home than someone who takes the time to go to a nice market and purchase healthier alternatives. I'm speaking from experience here.
According the Kevin Trudeau and a few other sources we can attribute obesity to chemical additives in food which screw with our biology enough that we become addicted to the worst stuff possible. There's also the matter of conveniences making for a less active society ranging from pizza delivery to the internet, etc. __________________But the backdrops peel and the sets give way and the cast get eaten by the play, there's a murderer at the matinee, there are dead men in the aisles

I understand believe me that healthy foods tend to be more expensive which could lead to obesity, but still it's funny because years ago even by eating crappy foods people didn't have enough to keep weight on. Plus the fact people were always busy doing physical labor. __________________Lucas McCain the Rifleman: A man doesn't run from a fight, Mark...but that doesn't mean you should go running *to* one, either.

It does lend a little credibility to what Trudeau says about the food companies being in collusion with the weight loss industry. They get the public at both ends.
I believe Penn & Teller did an episode of BS dedicated to the diet industry. I'll look it up later maybe. __________________But the backdrops peel and the sets give way and the cast get eaten by the play, there's a murderer at the matinee, there are dead men in the aisles
