Political Discussion / Politics / President / Obama accuses McCain Falsely

Did you guys hear McCain the other day? I heard him on CNN respond to Obama's false accusation against him.

Obama, and I've read this elsewhere, was accusing McCain of supporting the Bush oil bill a while back, and going on and on about how terrible it was.

Turns out and McCain brought this out on CNN that Obama himself voted for the bill, and McCain voted against it.

He cracked me up too. McCain said," In the real world when you vote against something it usually means you oppose it, and when you vote for it that means you are supporting it."

Quote:
In stumping Tuesday in this key battleground state, Obama sought to link the troubled economy with Republican policies and offer his own energy plan in contrast. He has tried to cast McCain as more concerned about oil company profits and drilling than an overall energy strategy.

However, Obama himself voted for a 2005 energy bill backed by Bush that included billions in subsidies for oil and natural gas production, a measure Cheney played a major role in developing. McCain opposed the bill on grounds it included billions in unnecessary tax breaks for the oil industry.

The Obama campaign has said the Illinois senator supported the legislation because it included huge investments in renewable energy.

McCain spokesman Tucker Bounds, said, "Barack Obama is opposed to offshore drilling and is also opposed to admitting that he voted for the same corporate giveaways for Big Oil that he's campaigning against today."

So McCain is no longer wrong for acting on the behalf of the oil company interests because Obama supported a bill three years ago?

They both suck. At different levels on varying principles. I'm not wasting my time voting. Decision '08 has been made for me already.

I don't think windfall taxes are a good idea. That's just like one crook stealing from another.

I haven't actually heard McCain offer any special tax cuts just to oil companies unless it has something to do with exploration for oil. I guess that's possible, but I do know for sure he's went on record voting against giving oil companies free money in that one bill Obama voted for.

It's a common generalization to say all politics are liars. It's also usually true. Why would McCain be any different? You're still making a judgement based on one bill from 3 years ago? You probably know the figures better than I do here; that was one bill out of how many on that day and week?

My main original point was that Obama accused McCain of being for something McCain literally voted against, and Obama himself having voted for that very same thing he was ridiculing McCain for being for which he wasn't.
