Here's a study that needed to be done. They found that because of drug and alchohol use rock stars were more likely to die before reaching old age than average people. They should have just asked me I could have told them that.

Well some do, some don't. Keith Richards appears to have been more or less mumified by the amount of substances in his system. Though he still walks the earth looking like the "undead", he is very much alive.

I think the moral of the story is statistically drugs and alochol might not be a good health plan for the average person. Some folks though can and do beat the odds smoking, drinking, and partying till late in life.
I often wonder if that lifestyle's negative effects are just accumulative, or if it a rock star just gets too old to handle an average rock star drug cocktail one night and buys the farm all at once as opposed to slowly fading away. __________________Lucas McCain the Rifleman: A man doesn't run from a fight, Mark...but that doesn't mean you should go running *to* one, either.

I think people are aware of what they're getting into when they take a drink or a hit off of a cigarette. I wouldn't want to go through life not having tried anything either- but that's my choice.
What bugs me is when people are hit with things they AREN'T aware of- when we can't get our companies to spot check the products they sell us, or at least warn us with:
"Hey, this was made without any concern for your safety whatsoever. Maybe try it on a friend first. Best of luck."
Lately this has applied to cars, toothpaste, toys- you name it. I'd much rather be killed by a series of relaxing smokes with friends than unsuspected death by Colgate while franticly trying to get out the door in the morning.

There's a lot I wish I never tried, cigerettes being top of the list. Took a miracle for me to quit. I smoked for years.
Was Colgate on the list of China's tainted toothpaste? __________________Lucas McCain the Rifleman: A man doesn't run from a fight, Mark...but that doesn't mean you should go running *to* one, either.

my only regret was that i started smoking. and i've done it all. drugs, drinking, the whole shebang. but i wouldn't trade the fun and experiences that i had in my youth for anything. p.s. i am now smoke free. except for weed. after a hard day of work, going to the gym, taking care of my pets, etc. etc. etc. i like to unwind with a nice fat joint. so sue me.

I want sue you, but I've heard a joint has the same effect as a pack of cigerettes. __________________Lucas McCain the Rifleman: A man doesn't run from a fight, Mark...but that doesn't mean you should go running *to* one, either.

Marijuana isn't treated with all the chemicals that the tobacco in a pack of smokes is.
Nothing alike. __________________But the backdrops peel and the sets give way and the cast get eaten by the play, there's a murderer at the matinee, there are dead men in the aisles

Well, I can't say that the notion of inhaling smoke into one's lungs would ever be rife with health benefits... but it is fun.
Quitting smoking is such a difficult thing. I knew a former heroin user who said smoking was by far harder to quit. His logic was that with the heroin, you can always catch a greyhound and not go near the people who have it again. Generally, they take some work to find. but cigarettes? If you live near other people anywhere in the world, then you pass by cigarettes daily.
Was it Pak who said the easiest way to quit is just not to smoke? I think it is different for different people. For instance, if your parents smoked, I think it would be harder. Cigarette smoke smells like home. If you weren't brought up around it, maybe not so much. I'll have a smoke every now and again- but I've just never gotten into it as a habit- I'd say because my formative years weren't spent around it.
The biggest problem with cigarettes is the weird niche they fill. For two minutes, conversation with just about anyone is possible. Not to mention, for those two minutes, there aren't many other things you can do but interact. There definitely won't be any riding a bike (unless one is quite skilled), as I once found out in college.
Personally, I just don't see why so many chemicals need to be added to a pack of cigarettes anyway. I'm sure there are motivations other than keeping people hooked, but a guy like me would probably smoke more often if I had any idea what was in it and if they weren't full of addictive nicotine. Why is it that we can put a man on the moon but not develop a cigarette that cleans your teeth like fancy chewing gum?

I think you want a healthy cigerette which is what I used to want. Now I just want to never get tempted again to smoke. Which I'm ok with not smoking these days, but I'd hate to have a stressful tech support job like I used to have where everyone smoked on break. __________________Lucas McCain the Rifleman: A man doesn't run from a fight, Mark...but that doesn't mean you should go running *to* one, either.
